The runway shows are always incredibly exciting, but we also love to visit the showrooms to view the new collections up close, get the story behind the designer’s inspiration, and learn about the construction of the garments and the details of the fabrics. Our team visited quite a few showrooms this trip, and they loved all of them, but they specially enjoyed Alexander McQueen.
McQueen was known for his impeccable tailoring, intricate embroidery, and edgy, wearable designs. Following his death, designer Sarah Burton, who worked for McQueen for 16 years, has done an impeccable job at continuing the brand’s legacy and upholding its unique aesthetic. The latest collection for Spring 2020, was no exception—in fact—she truly outdid herself.
Burton referenced and reimagined designs from her and McQueen’s past, she recycled lace, tulle, and organza from previous collections, and used special craftsmen for her linen and wool pieces. The result was an impeccably detailed, exquisitely designed collection that was artisanal, environmentally conscious, and as fashion as fashion gets.
