Rafael Nadal and his Richard Mille RM27-01Watches
Recently I was given the very special task of finding the perfect wrist watch to commence a young client’s collection of investment grade ‘timepieces’. While I would never claim to be an expert on this subject, an occupational hazard is exposure to the best, as well as the basics, when it comes to the most exceptional pieces. Of course, I am familiar with the high-end standards such as Rolex, Cartier and Patek Philippe, but in my quest for the best, I discovered a rare art and degree of craftsmanship, design and engineering that is truly beyond. I have to share with you my favorite finds from this particular project (in no specific order). Enjoy! -Joe

Breguet Tourbillon Messidor in Platinum and Rose Gold
I. Breguet Tourbillon Messidor in Platinum and Rose Gold. I have to kick this off with Monsieur Breguet who invented the tourbillion, the most complicated complication in the world and most noble. There’s not one important timepiece in the world that doesn’t contain a Breguet invention. At auction, these timepieces can be sold at the same price used at retail. Only 17,000 watches are made by Breguet per year, and as little as 20 of these particular pieces are made per year across the globe.

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar In Stainless Skeleton
II. Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar In Stainless Skeleton was another favorite because of its style and beauty. This piece is my personal favorite because I prefer a stainless durable timepiece that I can wear anywhere anytime. This piece has many special features including a perpetual calendar (yes, it even contains a dial that goes around only once every 4 years to account for leap years).

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore
III. I love Audemars Piguet Offshore Diver in Stainless for its sportiness, simplicity and versatility. An alligator strap completely changes the look of this piece and can be purchased if you prefer to change it up a bit.

Richard Mille RM 27-01
IV. A star is born with this extraordinary work of art, Richard Mille RM 27-01. Designed for an active sporty lifestyle, it weighs almost nothing boasting a sexy skeleton design in titanium – feather light fabrication. It can take you, or you can take it anywhere! Nadal Wears this piece, as it is called ‘The Nadal.’

F.P. Journe Tourbillon Souverain Remontoir Platinum
V. F. P. Journe is a modern day classicist, creating world class timepieces that are reminiscent of 18th century master works created for the French aristocracy. My favorite was the Tourbillon Souverain Remontoir Platinum with Ruthenium Dial. The brand combines the most advanced, as well as classic technologies with sleek, beautiful and somewhat understated design elements.
If you are in the market for a special timepiece, start at Cellini on Madison Ave in NYC for a wide range of top, extraordinary brands. It’s also worth checking out the Breguet Boutique on Madison and the Audemars Piguet shop on 57th Street near Park Ave. Look forward to more on this subject as we approach the holiday gift giving season!
