January is almost behind us but we’re still getting our bearings on the New Year. One thing we know for sure is what trends we’re excited to try out in 2019, and which ones we’re leaving in 2018. If you still love something on our “ditch list,” there’s no need to fret, fashion is cyclical and with time most trends do come back into style—case in point, the fanny pack!
Keep reading for our top 3 trend swaps for 2019 and shop the post to get a head start on this year’s spring fashion.
1. Out: Pastels
Last spring and summer it was all about pastels—pale pinks, blues, purples, and yellows were all over the runways and street style stars were styling the washed out hues left and right. There will still be a time and a place for pastels—think baby showers or Easter celebrations—but this year we’re graduating to chicer versions of pale hues.

1. In: Neutrals
Spring 2019 will be the season of neutral tones. A head to toe creamy dreamy look is ideal, but incorporating one or two ecru, ivory, or white pieces into your spring look will also achieve the desired outcome.

2. Out: Embellished Denim
Denim itself will never go out of style, but last year we saw too many busy embellished styles. There was patchwork denim, fringe denim, beaded denim, denim embellished with pearls and other stones, and many other adorned styles. We predict 2019 will be the year that classic, polished styles come back into play, which means saying goodbye to too many decorative details.
2. In: Straight Leg 90s Style Denim
We predict 2019 will be all about back to basics—high waisted, straight leg denim with minimal distressing will be the norm amongst the street style set while wild, embellished styles will fade away. Bonus points if you cinch your 90s denim at the waist with a classic leather belt!

3. Out: Over-the-knee Boots
Over-the-knee boots have been ever present over the last few winters and we’re finally ready to give them some much needed rest. We still like them worn with mini dresses to elongate the leg, but with midi skirts taking over shorter styles, we think a new, fresh boot silhouette will be a welcome change in 2019.

3. In: Slouchy Knee Boots
80s inspired silhouettes began popping up a few seasons ago, but the only piece we actually took a liking to from this throwback trend was the slouchy boot. Best when worn with midi dresses and skirts or over straight leg jeans, this vintage inspired boot silhouette will be a must have in 2019.
