1. DON’T DO THIS: Wear a Cocktail Dress to Work

Many of us will be going from work straight to a party. Do not wear a cocktail dress to work.

DO THIS: Use Accessories To Transition Day Into Evening

There are ways to transition your office look into an evening look simply with a change of accessories, and separates will do the job. Wear something tonal – for example, a winter white pencil skirt, a sleek navy dress, or even a grey/metallic skirt and a tonal or white blouse. Wearing a tonal baseline creates an elongated silhouette. See more inspiration in our WORK IT! Holiday Dressing series.

2. DON’T DO THIS: Overdo Your Look with Accessories

Speaking of accessorizing, beware of overdoing it. Leave that job for the Christmas tree.

DO THIS: Keep It Minimal

If you’re wearing a statement necklace, stick to a simple stud or a button earring. If you’re opting for dangling earrings, a cocktail ring will be enough complete the look. If you’re going for sparkly bangles, keep the rings to a minimum. It’s also a good idea to keep the bangles and the rings on one arm, leaving the other one clean for a sleek look that’s not overdone.

3. DON’T DO THIS: Wear Red with Green

Don’t be the crazy Christmas lady. You’re more chic than that!

DO THIS: Add A Pop Of Color

Red and green ARE acceptable in your holiday looks, but only as pops of color. A shoe, a necklace, a clutch. For example, the pops of red in our client Melinda Knight, MD.’s fur cape and feather shoes add interest and accentuate the festive mood. Another route to go is shades of red, such as cordovan and burgundy.
