Style & Substance: Marissa Mayer

Marissa Mayer on the cover of Fortune Magazine

This year, all eyes were on Marissa Mayer as she was named tech giant Yahoo’s president and CEO, becoming the youngest CEO of a Fortune 500 company, and number 14 on the list of America’s most powerful businesswomen of 2012 by Fortune magazine. We’re inspired by her ability to combine it all at once: A visionary, a businesswoman, a wife, a mother (she was 6 months pregnant when she accepted the Yahoo! job), and the most fashion-conscious executive in Silicon Valley.

She breaks the stereotypes and believes that “It’s good to show that you don’t need to sacrifice your sense of femininity because you are an engineer”, setting a great example for the future generations of women in tech. “Get in a bit over your head,” she says in an interview to Glamour. “That’s how you grow and learn and stretch yourself.”

Alexander McQueen gown

Marissa’s style type is Whimsical Chic, and she favors Alexander McQueen and Oscar de la Renta (she once paid $60,000 at a charity auction to have lunch with the designer). Her signature look is a colorful printed dress with cardigan for the day, and whimsical gowns for special events.
