Mr. Selfridge
Mr. Selfridge could be my favorite costume drama after Downton Abbey. Set in the early 1900s, the series follows the flamboyant American founder of the iconic eponymous department store in London. Just like much of the team at Visual Therapy, Harry Gordon Selfridge came from a Chicago retail background. Starting as an errand boy at Marshall Field & Company, he worked his way up, then moved to London to set a new standard for visual merchandising and retail in general at his new department store, Selfridges. He truly succeeded in making shopping an enjoyable pastime rather than an obligatory a chore. Here are some wonderful images of the history of the iconic British institution.
