This year marks 10 years since the Indian Ocean Tsunami, and we can’t wait to celebrate Petra Němcová and the achievements she has created with Happy Hearts Fund at tonight’s Chopard gala at Cipriani. Switching her attention from a personal tragedy (Němcová lost her fiancé Simon Atlee to tsunami), to helping the world, she created something truly beautiful: after being founded in 2006, Nemcova’s Happy Hearts has rebuild over 85 schools damaged or destroyed by natural disasters, reached 46,000 children, and impacted the lives of 490,000 community members. Just as driven as she is stunning, Nemcova is not only a supermodel featured by Sports Illustrated‘s Swimsuit, Elle and Harper’s Bazaar but also a driven philanthropist, Ambassador-at-Large for Haiti (where she now lives, working to create jobs in the island nation), and entrepreneur.
Her first entrepreneurial venture is a luxury home decor brand called Be The Light. The initial line is a collection of beautiful candles, each representing a piece of a different country’s culture.
MESSAGE

CAUSE
In 2005, Němcová created the Happy Hearts Fund (HHF), a charitable organization and campaign formed after her survival and recovery from the Tsunami of 2004. When Němcová returned to Thailand a few months after the tsunami, she witnessed families without homes, children without parents and entire communities swept away. She was most affected by the children and sought to figure out a way to help them rebuild their lives and bring back hope and opportunity.
Němcová is also a supporter of the NY- and DC-based nonprofit Only Make Believe, which creates and performs interactive plays in children’s hospitals and care facilities. In 2012, Němcová acted as the face of Only Make Believe in lighting the Empire State Building and received the James Hammerstein Award, for her outstanding dedication to children in need, at the 2012 “Make Believe on Broadway” Gala.
