Empowered Through Style: NYFW Highlights

If you’re one of our regular readers, you know we believe in empowerment through style.

It’s what we strive to bring our clients every day. Right now we’re inspired by women’s empowerment that we saw at the New York Fashion Week. It was a common thread from Mara Hoffman to Jonathan Simkhai, with clothes as a canvas for important statements that create impact.

Here’s the breakdown!

Mara Hoffman

Participating in the Women’s March was not the end for Mara Hoffman, she knew she needed to harness the energy and keep the momentum going. She invited Women’s March co-founders to make opening remarks at her runway show.

Hoffman stated, “This is the chance to show that there can be a cross section of fashion, politics and activism in the name of social justice and women’s empowerment. These are necessary things for all people.” Her line represented working women, which translated into clothes that were easy to move in made of knits, soft denim and other breathable fabrics.

Prabal Gurung

Gurung’s fall 2017 show was inspired by the powerful women in his life. Models floated down the runway in luxurious coats, silky pieces and bright colors. Emotions flooded the room as the models came out in T-shirts stamped with political statements for the final walk.

Jonathan Simkhai

Simkhai’s Fall/Winter 2017 line mixed feminine silhouettes with masculine tailoring reminiscent of matador uniforms. He wanted to create looks that mirrored the courage and bravery in the voices of women everywhere.
