In the heart of Los Angeles luxury shopping, The Row is unlike any other store. Located in a modernist, 3,800-square-foot stucco building with a glassed-in courtyard pool, this residential-style flagship features furniture and art sourced from local purveyors and an array of vintage jewelry and objects, in addition to the brand’s full product line of women’s wear and accessories. If you’re in luck, you’ll also find Manolo Blahnik shoes and Sidney Garber jewelry (which the Olsens are a huge fan of).

“It’s a curation of what we love and what inspires us,” said Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, celebrity child actresses turned powerhouse fashion entrepreneurs. “We started off by selling The Row in apartments in Paris, and we’d sleep there with the clothes. So it’s always been about welcoming people into our home, even at a wholesale level,” said Ashley.
One of the things we love about The Row is its agelessness. The Olsens have always had a keen focus on customers of all ages, from their 25-year-old sister actress, Elizabeth Olsen, an avowed fan of the leather leggings, to 70-year-old model Lauren Hutton, a friend and mentor, whom they tapped as the face of The Row in 2008.
The collection is about an understated elegance, easy tailoring and fine fabrics, merchandised in a way that makes you want to leave the store with full looks, not pieces. That’s really the beauty of shopping boutiques: while department stores have a tightly curated representations of brands, the boutiques are the pure reflection of the designer’s vision, a story told through details. And The Row on Melrose Place is nothing but a feast for the eyes. It’s a paradise of chic minimalism, and one of the few stores that makes you feel the fashion magic.
If you’re ever in LA, The Row is a place you can’t miss.
