Jesse and I had the pleasure of attending the Lynn Sage Cancer Research Foundation’s 28th Annual Fall Benefit Luncheon in Chicago yesterday. One of our dear friends, Nancy Resnick, was the co-chair this year with the lovely Diane Keaton as the keynote speaker.
Keaton’s hour-long speech was about everything from generosity to love to loss. She even shared videos of her own personal life, as well as her experience with her father’s battle with brain cancer and her own mother’s gradual decline. Several things she spoke of touched us deeply, such as “Generosity is love and love is equal to generosity.” We give from our hearts and there is no withholding in love. She also said “Would we hurt each other less if we touched each other more.”
The afternoon was so inspiring as we listened to the stories of triumph – one of the hosts spoke of how she dressed up in her best outfit for chemo each week and it helped her to get though it with dignity.
There was also a silent purse auction to “Purse-sue the Cure”. All “it” bags were donated by retailers, boutiques and guests’ personal collections. The event was their most successful to date. Generosity is love. Give to Lynn Sage here. -Joe
