Alexander Wang’s Powerful Balenciaga Debut

Balenciaga Fall 2013

Alexander Wang’s Fall collection debut for Balenciaga was presented in a mostly monochromatic palette, emphasizing the meticulous craftsmanship and balance that was very much in keeping with the spirit of the iconic French fashion house. It’s hard to do volume right, but Wang managed to play with volume and textures while maintaining a flattering and wearable silhouette. The result? A fantastic collection with clean, refined lines, elegant cutouts, mesmerizing fabrics, and references to Balenciaga’s mid-century designs. Alexander Wang’s goal was to “begin by going back to the roots of the house”, and he did just that while adding an irresistible modernist twist.
