Alexander McQueen pre-fall 2014
Yesterday we had the pleasure of attending the Alexander McQueen pre-fall 2014 trunk show: not an informal affair, but rather a full-on fashion show with models strutting through the New York flagship store with the designer herself in the audience. After the show, we had the opportunity to chat with the incredibly talented and lovely Sarah Burton. As we talked about what we do – managing people’s wardrobes to empower them – we found that we have a lot in common. She explained that the theme of her latest collection is just that: to empower women. We were completely taken with Burton’s humility and graciousness.

Burton, who used to be the late designer’s right hand, took upon herself the challenging task of adding feminine lightness to the brand while honoring the master McQueen’s edgy, chic darkness. The pre-fall 2014 collection is proof that she successfully achieved it. This season, Burton placed bold emphases on tailoring – including strong shoulders, sharp suiting, and visible elements of construction. It’s always exciting to see the artistic work seen as fantasy on the catwalk, become reality with the pieces made to be sold in stores. This time around, the collection is incredibly wearable and empowering, with irresistible elements of fantasy that we have come to expect from Burton’s McQueen.
Looks like we will be flagging quite a few pieces from the collection for our clients – bravo, Sarah! -Jesse
