As I mentioned in my last post on rugs, the right rug can make or break the mood of a room. You can use a rug as a focal point of the room or simply as an additional luxury layer, adding some texture.
We have just begun another exciting new project with VT Home in New York City’s West Village. The client is a successful fashion model and entrepreneur, and the building is new a development in a prewar structure. Her style is somewhat bohemian chic, so I went to The Rug Company to look at their designer series of rugs from amazing fashion designers such as Rodarte, McQueen, DVF, and Paul Smith. Since we are at the very beginning of conceptualizing the apartment, we’ve got a pretty clean slate.
Here are some of my favorite rugs from The Rug Company that will not only inspire our new client, but will also open your eyes to the incredible statement that you can make with the right rug.

This Vivienne Westwood Rug from The Rug Company perfectly ties together the monumental scale Sputnik chandelier. While the rug itself is ‘whimsical’, it somehow reads ‘whimsical – chic’ according to #VTHome style type quiz.
This perfectly pastel whimsical rug from English fashion designer Vivienne Westwood for The Rug Company is just subtle enough for a dining room. While it’s wonderfully feminine, it isn’t necessarily ‘girly’.
This rug (Pony) by Alexander McQueen for The Rug Company is a perfect hit for a den, library or dressing room. The contemporary geometric play on an pony hair is quite elegant and fresh.
We love Rodarte in womens fashion and are incredibly excited to discover their collection of luxuriously cool rugs for The Rug Company. This design (Ember) in particular is a favorite with the Vladimir Kagan sofa.

If you are into classic luxury, We are obsessed with this chic neutral silk rug from The Rug Company. It’s all about texture when it comes to using a single colored rug. It is quite subtle yet very sophisticated.

We have touched on the hugely popular use of gold in interior design. This rug by Kelly Wearstler for The Rug Company has a hint of green in the gold which is quite fresh. Check out our piece on Life In Color – The Golden Rule on our blog for more chic inspiration.
We love combining elements of nature such as a butterfly in this fantastic rug from The Rug Company by Tara Bernerd (Papillon).
As we well know at Visual Therapy fashion and home walk hand in hand. This Alexander McQueen rug for The Rug Company is the perfect update to an uber classic, fabulously styled bedroom.
The animal print Zebois from The Rug Company is a nice contemporary take on a classic zebra print rug. Visually, I love the neutral tones and silk hand weave to the touch. Combining it with a few tribal works or art in the contemporary room is quite chic, avant-garde.
This rug from Allegra Hicks (legendary interior designer, David Hicks former daughter-in-law) called Reflections from The Rug Company is a very sophisticated take on an animal print. The symmetry is what most attracts us to this piece.

A very sophisticated pastel geometric moment here in this rug by English Fashion Designer Paul Smith that is part of his colorful, but luxurious collection for the Rug Company.
