Although we’ve yet to feel a chill in the air, fall (and fall fashion!) will be here before you know it. But, even though we love following the new trends as much as anybody else, when it comes to our clients—and even our own wardrobes—we tend to stick to the mentality of “have less, love more.” The ultimate goal is to build a collection of classic pieces that transcend trends, mix and match seamlessly with the rest of your wardrobe, and make you feel like the absolute best version of yourself. Cue the capsule collection.
This core, or capsule collection is designed to be the “cake” or your wardrobe—meaning you will use it as your baseline for seasons to come. Trendier statement pieces will serve as the “frosting,” and they should make up a smaller portion of your closet. Curious about what a VT approved fall capsule collection looks like? Keep scrolling, and shop the post to start building your own foundational wardrobe. Stay tuned for a post on how to buy and style “frosting” pieces.
Fall 2019 Capsule
1. The Tailored Blazer
We chose a navy double breasted version by Veronica Beard but stick to whatever style looks best on your body type in navy, gray, black, camel, or classic plaid.
2. The Fitted Black Turtleneck
A fitted black turtleneck is a must-have fall/winter layering piece. They look great under jackets, tucked into jeans, and layered under midi dresses. Try a sheer version to add a bit of edge to your look.
3. A Perfect White Blouse
A white blouse that fits beautifully is a must have in any woman’s wardrobe. The styling options are endless—wear it tucked into jeans, leather trousers, or almost any style of skirt.
4. A Classic Trench Coat
A chic trench will be your go-to topper when the days get chillier. Opt for classic colors like khaki, black, or navy.
5. Dark Wash Straight Leg Jeans
Jean trends come and go but you can’t go wrong with a timeless dark wash straight leg. Styles that are cropped at the ankle look best with booties and mules in the fall.
6. Leather Trousers
Leather pants are a stylish staple during the cooler months. Skip the skinny legging styles and go for the straight or wide leg versions, pairing them with tucked in blouses and turtlenecks.
7. Suede Ankle Boots
A suede block heel bootie will be the shoe you reach for most come fall. We love a rich brown but black suede works just as well.
8. A Structured Handbag
Something structured and polished is key when you’re looking for an everyday handbag. Stick to black for fall and chose styles with minimal hardware.
9. A Simple Pair of Mules
A pair of low heeled mules will carry you through the fall and into the spring once the weather warms up. Black or neutral colors such as beige, brown, gray, or white will be your best bet for mixing and matching.
