If the massive popularity of Alessandro Michele’s Gucci has taught us anything about fashion, it’s that we’re experiencing a period of more is more is more in style. Between the print mixing, the big logos, and the endless embellishments, high fashion today is all about maximalism.
Even though here at VT we tend to skew on the classic and chic side of style, forgoing all the extras, we’re still fans of highlighting a single beautiful print within a look. That being said, not every print (paisley, for example!) is worthy of being the focal point of an outfit, which is why we thought we’d make it easy and share the classic prints that will never go out of style. Scroll through for the 6 timeless patterns we love and shop the post to scoop up something printed and whimsical for your own wardrobe.
1. Floral
Florals are not usually groundbreaking, but the right ones can be edgy and cool. Think Proenza Schouler’s flowery dresses or Givenchy’s romantic rose prints.

2. Polka Dots
This classic print just so happens to be experiencing a huge resurgence in popularity and we’re definitely not mad about it.

3. Stripes
Stripes are one of our all time favorite patterns, and they’re probably the easiest to pull off. We love a classic black and white stripe, but have recently been finding ourselves drawn to the more colorful rainbow iterations.

4. Camouflage
One the edgiest prints on this list, camo is not for the style shy. Still, it’s a print that has stood the test of time with designers showing new interpretations on the style season after season.

5. Animal Print
Leopard is definitely having a moment right now, but animal print in general (leopard, cheetah, zebra, snakeskin, even butterflies!) will forever be a classic. The easiest way to wear this print is with accessories—a cheetah print coat (we LOVE this Altuzzara one), a zebra mule, or snakeskin bootie.

6. Plaid
When you think of a classic print, plaid is probably one of the first to come to mind. Plaid blazers were huge last season—and the print in general will continue to be a big trend this fall—but more importantly, it’s such a classic that it will never actually go out of style.
