The beginning of the year is the perfect time to define your goals, and that goes for style, too. The New Year doesn’t mean a totally new you. It is simply a reminder that you already have everything it takes to be the star version of yourself, all you have to do is put a little work into it.

This January, we are kicking off “THE RELAUNCH”. For the next 4 weeks, it will replace “Work It!”, and serve as your guide to finding (and expressing!) your most authentic self through style.

It all starts with asking the right questions, the most important one being:

  • How do I want to be perceived, or what image do I want to portray?

A good way to approach this question is to think of yourself as a brand. What are some adjectives to describe your brand? If you were to name 5-10 adjectives that describe who you are in all areas of your life (career, personal, family), what would they be? For example: approachable, put together, sexy, appropriate, powerful.

Take a piece of paper, or type a note on your computer or phone. Writing it out gives it new dimension, making it more real, and helping you to clearly see the direction you’re going and your own evolution.

Does what you wear project the way you want to be perceived? If the answer is no, you’re giving mixed signals.

Once you have a few ideas of how you’d like to be perceived, you can ask yourself questions about the outfit you’re putting on. Think about what you’re wearing as a tool to project your image.

Finding your style is like a puzzle, and answering these very important questions is the first step in making your relaunch a reality.

Stay tuned for Day 2, where we’ll talk about defining your style.
