The New Celine, By Hedi Slimane

Hedi Slimane’s debut collection as creative director for Celine was to sum it up—disappointing, but to be expected. Part of us was hoping Slimane would do something more creative and thoughtful with this esteemed post at the fashion house, even while lending his very specific aesthetic to the brand.

The 96 look show was a sea of black, leather, sky high hem lines, sequins, and slim dark suiting—a far cry from Celine collections of the past 10 years, but seemingly a continuation of Slimane’s  final collection for Saint Laurent back in 2016. Yes, there was a true rock and roll glamour vibe, but how will former Celine clients relate to this new idea of what the brand stands for? It’s clear that Slimane won’t be straying far from his obsession with the rail thin, live fast die hard, rebellious youth style aesthetic, so we can say our final goodbyes to Phoebe Philo’s Celine.

We will continue to keep an open mind about Slimane and his position at Celine, secretly hoping he will branch out from his tired, one-trick-pony ways, but in the meantime check out some of the looks from his highly anticipated first collection for Celine and let us know your thoughts in the comments.
