The Healthy Side Of NYFW (Our 4 Favorite Things)

While NYFW—and any fashion week for that matter—is not known for being a healthy event, things are definitely changing. With SoulCycle taking over the world (or at least it seems!) and multi-functional activewear making their mark in the fashion world (hello, Derek Lam x Athleta), green juices are starting to flow backstage at the shows.

Here are some of our favorite healthy moments of Spring/Summer 2016 NYFW, so far.

1. Rooftop yoga with Serene Social

Starting your day with yoga is a wonderful thing, but starting your day with a great yoga class on a sunshine-filled rooftop with panoramic New York views, followed by a healthy breakfast featuring raw peach tarts? Score. This Serene Social gathering was the perfect way to kick off the busy fashion season (and stretch our heels before putting on a pair of high-heeled Gianvito Rossi booties.)

2. CALIA by Carrie Fashion Show

Seven-time Grammy winner Carrie Underwood #cantstopwontstop. The new mom flew out to New York to show her first collection of activewear, CALIA by Carrie. We’re all about functional fashion and great activewear (it really does make your workouts better!) and CALIA’s floral print capri pants and luxuriously soft work out tops really tickled our fancy. The line is also offering a new fabric technology called Bodywarm, which is designed to guard your skin against the cold and help you retain body heat.

We’re all about the brand’s motto, “Stay the Path.” Ms. Underwood shares: “We’re all on our own fitness journey, and we’re all going at our own pace, and we’re all in different places,” she told the crowd. “It’s all about finding your goals and staying the path, and staying true to that and working toward your goals no matter where you are.” Bonus: green juice and fresh smoothies were served at the event—transforming Milk Studios into a health and fitness hub. calia by carrie activewear

3. Chakra Cleansing and Smoothie Tasting with Lulitonix.

We kicked off one of the busiest days of NYFW with a refreshingly unexpected combo: chakra cleansing and smoothie tasting—yes, you read that right! Alyson Charles and Diya SenGupta led a small group of women through a guided meditation and energy clearing process, and served smoothies to match each chakra. Oh la la, now that was a high-vibe way to start the day!

So imagine you order an Uber, and when it arrives, lunch is waiting for you—a Sakara lunch that’s gourmet and plant-based. Yup, that’s exactly what happened when Uber and our favorite food delivery service Sakara Life teamed up for #SakaraFeedsNYFW.
