Toni Garn for Ports
When we’re working with clients, we always break down each look into categories (Business, Daytime, Date Night, etc.) based on their individual lifestyle and create unique formulas that work for each client.
Let’s face it: women who are managing both home and career usually don’t have time to think about what they are going to wear. That’s why being organized and proactive, instead of reactive, always pays off. In our book, “Nothing to Wear”, we discuss the concept of a “capsule” as the essential pieces that are the starting point for every look and in turn, make up the foundation of a solid wardrobe. As Coco Chanel said,
All one needs are two or three suits as long as they – and everything to go with them – are perfect.

Visual Therapy Capsule by Ruben Toledo for “Nothing To Wear?” book
The following list summarizes the essential elements for a foundation wardrobe. They are the same for each personal style; the differences will be in the design of the pieces. We recommend that your capsule consist of the following neutral colors, depending on your skin tone: black, chocolate-brown, navy, charcoal, taupe, ivory or cream. These picks from our stylists will give you a great place to begin with.
- one LBD
- one well-fitted suit (which can be mixed and matched with your other pieces)
- one knee-length skirt
- basic knits with varying necklines (v-neck, boatneck, turtleneck, etc.)
- underpinnings (to wear under jackets and sheer blouses)
- a perfect white shirt
- a pump, a bootie, a strappy heel and a flat
- a pair of perfectly fitting dark denim jeans and white jeans
- one leather or suede jacket
- a great everyday bag (a worthwhile investment)
