Schiaparelli and Prada Exhibition at the Met

Only one month left until Costume Institute’s Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations, an exhibition dedicated to the affinities between the two great Italian designers, opens at the Metropolitan Museum. Even though from different eras, Elsa Schiaparelli (1890–1973) and Miuccia Prada (born 1949), have a few striking things in common, from strict Catholic upbringing, to ambitious and rebellious nature, and of course, immense talent. Both women were inspired by surrealism and were known for their relationships with contemporary artists.

The exhibition is inspired by Miguel Covarrubias’s 1930s “Impossible Interviews” for Vanity Fair*, and will feature over 100 stunning designs and accessories by Schiaparelli and Prada. It will also showcase videos of simulated conversations between the two women directed by the great Baz Luhrmann.

“Impossible Conversations” will be on display May 10 through August 19, 2012, with a Gala Benefit on May 7, 2012. Read more about the exhibition here… The countdown begins!

*Series of caricatures by Miguel Covarrubias that featured unlikely pairings of public figures from opposing sides of the political and/or social spectrums. Each sketch was accompanied by a short and witty caption or contrived dialogue.
