Yesterday the whole NYC Visual Therapy team got together to attend Dior Fall 2014 trunk show, which resembled more of a tastefully curated futuristic art installation. A graphic lighting prop from the set of the Paris runway show was shipped in Paris to recreate the juxtaposing atmosphere from the show – feminine designs made for the woman in a digital world. Women’s RTW Department Manager Lynn Fernandes graciously gave us a guided tour of the collection, sharing Raf’s stories and inspiration behind the special pieces displayed.
Raf Simons is one of the most important designers of our time. Through his designs he has found a way to honor the history of the legendary Dior and add an absolutely unexpected twist to it. The result are original and innovative ideas that inspire other designers and revolutionize women’s wardrobes through a fresh combination of the old and the new. By adding bold color and modern details to his creations, Raf Simons catapults the collection straight into the future, setting new standards for modernist ladylike look.
Our team’s favorite example of this is the gorgeous embellishment that Simons used on a few of the dresses and jackets, called “the broken brooch’, which symbolizes the old and the new coming together. Not only that, Raf Simons also reinvented a piece as classic as the blazer itself, by adding relaxed peplum to its normally immutable shape.
As fashion forward as the collection was, there were surprisingly a lot of wearable pieces including baby cashmere and alpaca coats and tops. We stayed busy flagging looks for our clients, and putting their names on the list for pieces that will be impossible to get later in the season, such was this leather biker jacket – only three were ordered for the whole country. -Jesse
