Raf Simons presented Christian Dior Cruise 2015 last night in the Duggal Greenhouse at Brooklyn Navy Yard. The moment we stepped from the car to board the Dior Ferry, greeted by a navy of Dior Sailors a-la Pierre & Gilles with Anna Wintour aboard, we knew it was history in the making. The event was nothing like we have ever seen in New York – attention to detail, down to the Dior seat covers and soundtrack on the ferry was like a Paris Couture experience. It felt like a movie and all the guests were stars.
The Duggal Greenhouse was converted to futuristic perfection, a modernist maze in bright white and mirrors with the breathtaking view of Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan as the backdrop.
The cruise presentation itself left us speechless: Simons did it again, creating a collection where each piece was modern, innovative and completely wearable. It’s always more interesting to attend a show that includes not only celebrities and the media, but also top clients, allowing the media to gauge how the women the collection is made for will receive it. One thing Simons has managed to do with Dior is to create clothes that provide a nod to classic Dior while welcoming the next generation – there was truly something for every woman in the collection.
