While in Miami this winter, I met an amazing couple at Equinox – Andrea and Allen, who have become my good friends and quite an inspiration as we are all into fitness and healthy living.  Through them, I met Tanya Etessam, a personal training guru with background in ballet and body building and a wonderful story.

Tanya and Andrea work out together and support each other in fitness and nutrition, having fun and keeping on top of their goals.   I can’t stress enough how important it is to have friends who share your aspirations – mind, body and soul.  In this guest blog post, Tanya and Andrea share their tips on getting in shape for the beach season… the time to start is NOW! -Jesse

Looking good and feeling great go hand in hand. Deep down everyone really knows what he or she is supposed to do; exercise and eat healthy. As we go into the Spring/Summer season, many resolutions are being made. Do any of these sound familiar?

  • Lose weight
  • Start exercising
  • Eat healthy

Ok, so we all pretty much have the same goals… now how do we start to achieve these goals? First of all, get moving!

Here are our Top 5 exercises that we believe will give you the most “bang for your buck.” You don’t even need to have access to a gym to perform these

  1. Sprints: 4 x 50 yard sprints
  2. Squats: 30 reps
  3. Walking lunges: 30 reps total (15 each leg)
  4. Burpees: 25 reps
  5. Mountain climbers: 1 minute

To really get a serious burn try performing all 5 exercises back to back in a circuit. Repeat the circuit 3-4 times.

Now that you have a starting point for your exercise routine, it’s time to amp up your workout style. We believe that looking good while sweating is a must! As Sportluxe.com writes, “wearing an outfit that’s fashionable, comfortable, light and easy to train in is such an added bonus to looking fantastic”. We agree!

Our go-to activewear brands are Lululemon and Nike. Lululemon has a variety of colors and styles that are flattering on all shapes and sizes. Living in Miami, FL we especially love to mix the bright colors and fun patterns. For sneakers, Nike has many great options, but the really cool feature they have is their Nike ID section where you can customize them exactly how you like.
