Choosing a color scheme for many clients seems to be one of the most challenging tasks as a designer. Here are some of the most common issues, and ways to tackle them.
1. Fear Of Commitment
Fear of commitment is a major apprehension, because we tend to think of our home as something permanent, unlike our wardrobe, for example.
2. Family Business
Agreeing on a color is often tricky with couples and families, so you may tend to go completely neutral rather than stand your ground when it comes to color. Often couples will go the route of splitting the grounds, for example “you take the living room, and I’ll take our bedroom.”
3. Hesitation To Go Bold
It’s hard to the take the leap to color but, in my experience, when clients decide to do it, there are no regrets. If you are trying to decide on a color combination that works really well, look for inspiration in the marketplace. Don’t limit yourself to home fabric showrooms. Turn to nature and look at exotic birds and flowers.
If this idea is too abstract, look at the plethora of wall coverings that are available in the market these days. It doesn’t matter if you like the pattern or design, use this resource for color combinations that you find pleasing.
Here are some winning combos to get you started. We will revisit this topic just as we did with our VT Home: Life In Color series. Enjoy!
