VT stylists visited the new Celine boutique on Madison avenue last week, and it’s official—RIP Phoebe Philo’s Celine. As if the YSL inspired collection wasn’t enough of a shock to the system, the entire vibe of the new flagship is reminiscent of the Saint Laurent boutique. While the rows of items suspended above mirrored blocks were perfectly imitated, Slimane added some warmth to the decor with neutral colored benches and granite details.
Another thing we noticed during our visit—yes, the new Celine bares an undeniable resemblance to Saint Laurent, but the quality of the garments has been elevated. There were lots of edgy, black, and embellished pieces, but there were also more intricate designs and incredibly durable fabrics. We were also surprised to find a small capsule of classic pieces—your perfect black wool overcoat, a timeless trench, and impeccably tailored suiting.
Both Jesse and Joe were able to make it to the boutique for this exclusive preview and they even had a chance to view couture pieces that were flown in from Paris. Overall, we were very impressed with the quality of the clothing and the timelessness of the pieces, despite feeling as though we’ve seen it all before.
