When I think of couture, I think of artisans. The people who create the magic of couture with their artistic craftsmanship. Home of couture is not only Paris, like most of us would think, but also in Italy, where it is known as “alta moda”. A beautiful piece in Beyond magazine, “The Empire Strikes Back”, tells the story of Italian couture and AltaRoma, an assembly of Italian couture houses in Milan that shows twice a year, immediately after the haute couture shows in Paris. Headed by Silvia Fendi, the granddaughter of the legendary fashion house’s founders, and supported by Vogue Italia editor Franca Sozzani, it promotes extraordinary Italian artisanship passed down through the centuries.
