Looks to Live In

The Sport Coat: Tailored The most important piece in your wardrobe is a well tailored sport coat. Look for one in tweed or thin black corduroy. It can be worn day or night and not feel like a typical black jacket.

The Suit: Navy Look for a year-round weight in gabardine. A three-piece is great because wearing the vest with the suit is one way, without the vest is another way and a third is breaking up the suit to just wear the jacket with jeans. Too keep the look modern, get a cut with higher arm holes and a fit that skims the body.

The Jeans: Dark denim Dark denim cleans up a casual look. Levi’s or A.P.C. are great and won’t break the bank. For a change, look at Levi’s dark gray jeans.

The Shirt: White and fitted

The Shoe: Wingtip For a modern take, choose brown with a chunky rubber sole, or a burnished vintage finish.

The Sneakers: Kick it up a notch Designer sneakers are consistently important for winter and summer. They make a look younger and fresher.

The Layer: A gray cashmere hoodie

The Coat: A fitted, three-button cashmere overcoat Get one cut just above the knee. It’s very versatile as it can be worn day or evening with suit or with jeans and hoodie.

The Accessory: A ring scarf A lightweight ring scarf can be worn with a sport coat or overcoat, both indoor and outdoor.

If You Are Going to Spend Money

Invest in a great watch and really nice shoes. These key accessories make even a white T-shirt and jeans look like a million bucks. Invest in the basics; they go further. Keep the trendy or colorful items to a minimum, they tire quickly. Do: Find a good tailor. No matter what you buy, if the fit isn’t right, your look is ruined. Do: Also take it easy on the cologne. too much can be a big turn-off. Don’t: Make it look as though you tried too hard, but definitely make the effort.
