First Lady Style: Chic Perfection
During the inaugural events, Michelle Obama looked more chic and radiant than ever. Her looks were streamlined with a clean tailored silhouette and sleek bob with bangs – this First Lady means business!
Supporting American designers, she knows how to rock her chic style type while looking appropriate to every occasion. The most anticipated look of the day was a gorgeous custom burnout velvet Jason Wu gown (same designer she wore to the 2008 Inauguration Ball) with a handmade diamond embellished ring by Kimberly McDonald and shoes by Jimmy Choo. The rich ruby color was an excellent choice given that her colortype is Earth.
For the inaugural reception at The National Building Museum, Mrs. Obama went for a black sequin Michael Kors boat neck dress, showing the world that it IS okay to wear the same dress twice (first worn in 2009) and keeping the look fresh by adding new accessories.
The morning of the inauguration, the First Lady and her daughters demonstrated how to wear bright colors in a chic way. Michelle went for a navy Thom Browne coat and dress, belt and gloves from J. Crew and boots from one of our go-to designers Reed Krakoff; Malia wore a magenta J. Crew with customized buttons; Sasha was in a purple Kate Spade New York coat.
The first family looked superbly modern when President Obama took the official oath of office, Michelle wearing a custom ultramarine Reed Krakoff shift dress with a matching cashmere cardigan, Malia in a blue dress from H&M and Sasha in Plenty by Tracy Reese lace dress. Like mother, like daughter: Malia had previously worn the dress to the DNC, and recycled the look by layering it with a long-sleeved shirt.
For the Kids’ Inaugural Concert, Michelle kept her look fresh and appropriate, wearing a white Alexander McQueen tunic (previously worn in 2011) with an embellished yellow belt.
Michelle, your style is on fire!
