Icons: Jane Fonda

Jane Fonda

Oprah and the OWN network have nailed it once again. First with Life class, Oprah sharing the life lessons she has learned throughout the years on the show, and now Master class. As Jane Fonda said: “It is not about being perfect but about being whole”, it struck a chord with me or as Oprah would say, I had an ‘Aha moment’. At Visual Therapy we strongly believe that it is about wellness first and then using style as a way to celebrate yourself. Instead of comparing ourselves to others, all we should ever want to be is the star version of ourselves!

Fonda was chosen as one of the 100 Sexiest Stars in film history and was voted the 32nd Greatest Movie Star of all time. She’s appeared on numerous covers of magazines – twice on Vogue. Her latest movie, Monster-In-Law (2005) came out the same time as her autobiography, “My Life So Far” and at the same time her workouts were re-released on DVD. At 74, Jane Fonda is still glowing, glamorous and fit. She hopes to show others how the later years can be the best years of your life.

Gift

Jane is a feminist, philanthropist, an environmentalist, a fitness guru and a movie star. “I was terrified when I turned 30. I was pregnant and had the mumps and Faye Dunaway was just coming out in Bonnie and Clyde (1967). I thought, ‘Oh my God, I’ll never work again. I’m old!” Almost four years later she won Oscars for her roles in Klute (1971), and Coming Home (1978).

Message

Jane Fonda has been an activist for many political causes. Her message is to stand up for what you believe in and to make difference in the world. She protested on America’s occupation of Iraq, visited Sweden in 2006 to support political party FI (Feministic Initiative), marched in Mexico with activists demanding an investigation of the murders of hundreds of women there. She supported the Vietnam anti-war movement, and she has also been involved with a campaign to protect Kenyan girls from genital mutilation.

Cause

Jane Fonda established the Jane Fonda Center for Adolescent Reproductive Health in 2000. The center, which is located at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, is to prevent adolescent pregnancy through training and program development.

Style

She has been turning heads since the ‘60s and isn’t stopping now. She wears clean, sleek lines, always modern and appropriate but always tastefully sexy. Her style type is definitely chic!
