What does a “perfect body” look like? According to the fashion world, perfection are the long, lean silhouettes of Kate Moss and Chiara Ferragni. When it comes to fitness, the golden standard is, apparently, Kayla Itsines. How about striving to be the best version of YOU, instead of trying to become more like someone else?
Same goes about fashion: clothes can boost your confidence, but ultimately what you wear should make you feel more like YOU, not like someone else. This is a mantra we always remind our clients. Use fashion as a fun way to explore and get to know the real you, instead of concealing it.
It’s rare that someone really popular in the fashion or fitness world takes a stance on positive body image.
That’s why we love The “Perfect Body” video by YouTube Pilates instructor sensation Cassey Ho.
Ho is not only adored by millions of followers, but also gets to deal with hurtful body-shaming comments and experience cyber bullying first-hand every day (she is totally healthy and perfect, in our opinion!).
“It’s tough knowing what’s real and what’s not when magazine covers and music videos are Photoshopped (yes, music videos), Instagram pics are photoshopped, and so many women are getting surgery,” Cassey wrote on her blog, Blogilates.
So she decided to speak up. She posed the question: “When you look in the mirror, are you happy with what you see?”, and proceeded to photoshop her body to reflect the “standards” that the bullies impose on her.
Here’s the result. Share this post to help spread the word about self-love.
Ho hopes her video and image will encourage people to stop criticising others based on their appearance.
She told People magazine: “I hope that people do the exact opposite after seeing this video, which is enlighten everyone around them with positivity.”
Ultimately, beauty is the light that you have within. Let it shine!
